Rights & Reproduction Requests

Painting of a blue tablecloth with gold and red pattern. Strewn across the top are half-empty glasses of wine and brown liquid, playing cards, lemon halves and matches. Two pipes, one long and white, one small and dark, lie next to a container of sugar cubes, corks, and bottles.

Thank you for your interest in obtaining images from the collection of the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA).

NMWA grants permission to download collection images from our website for your own personal and noncommercial use or for fair use as defined in the United States copyright laws. Requests for all other uses must be made in writing. Each request is separately considered, and permission is granted on a case-by-case basis at the sole discretion of the museum. Fees apply, depending on the type and nature of the intended use.

The museum does not give permission for commercial use, including but not limited to products, advertising, commercial publication, or income-generating use of any kind.

Please note: While the museum owns the works in its collection, it does not own the copyrights for the works. The requestor is responsible for securing any and all additional copyright permissions from the copyright holder unless the work is in the public domain.

How to Order

Requests for permission to use or reproduce museum images may be submitted electronically via the Terms of Use links below. All requests for images and permission to reproduce are subject to approval. If fees apply, you will also be invoiced, and pre-payment is required.

Pre-Payment

Payment in full is due in advance of all media shipments and must be made in U.S. dollars. Accepted forms of payment include checks drawn from U.S. banks, wire transfers, and credit cards (Visa or MasterCard only). Payment must be received within 6 weeks from invoice for your order to be fulfilled promptly.

Fees and Terms

Review the Terms of Use prior to submitting a request. See the Rights and Reproductions Fee Schedule for full pricing information.

Timeframe

Please allow 2–3 weeks for initial processing. Thereafter, once the payment has been received, please allow an additional two weeks for the images to be sent to you. Large and complex orders or requests for which new photography must be scheduled will take longer.

Requests submitted by mail or email will take longer to fill. Those with missing information will not be accepted. Rush orders can be accommodated in 7 business days from receipt of payment and for double the total fees.
