Programs for families and teens provide
fun opportunities to learn about and participate in the arts. Family and
teen programs are free but some require advance registration.
Family Programs
Family Programs are designed for children ages 6 to 12, accompanied by
an adult. Held on the first Sunday of every monththe museum's Free
Community DaysFamily Programs feature a selection of activities,
including: the exploration of art in the galleries; exciting art projects
guided by museum staff; multicultural performances by local musicians,
dancers, and singers; and hands-on workshops. Family Programs foster individual
creativity, promote visual literacy, educate young audiences about the
contributions of women artists, and encourage positive family interaction.
The programs address multiple learning styles by integrating guided looking,
discussion, and hands-on activities.
Family Festivals
Family Festivals are annual celebrations of the cultural and artistic
traditions of a particular country or region, often held in conjunction
with a special exhibition. Children and adults enjoy music, dance, and
storytelling performances and take part in hands-on activities.
Role Model Workshops
Role Model Workshops bring area teens together with women who have achieved
success in the visual, literary, and performing arts and other areas of
creativity. Visiting artists serve as role models and mentors, offering
career information and guidance and leading hands-on activities that encourage
creative self-expression.
