Internship Application Procedures

Read this section carefully before submitting your application. Applications that do not follow this procedure will not be processed or considered. You must submit your application via the electronic application, with all uploaded documents in PDF format only.

Your internship application must consist of a cover letter, resume, two letters of recommendation, transcript, and a writing sample.

Your cover letter must state clearly:

  • The internship for which you are applying, including if you are interested in applying to an endowed internship
  • How your skills/experience qualify you for the internship in question, in accordance with the posted description
  • How the internship in question fits into your academic and career goals
  • Your personal interests

Your resume must include:

  • Your education and employment history
  • Your school, permanent address, current email address, phone number

Your 2 letters of recommendation should:

  • Be from a former or current employer, teacher or professor, or advisor
  • Be on letterhead of the company or school
  • If your recommender would prefer to submit letters directly, she or he may send them by email to internship@nmwa.org or by mail

Your transcript:

  • May be an unofficial electronic or scanned version

Your writing sample:

  • Should be 1–2 pages in length
  • Can be an excerpt from a paper

Important Information:

  • Applicants may apply for up to three internships per season
  • A different application, cover letter, and resume document is required for each position
  • All applications will be acknowledged via an email receipt by NMWA
