Performance: Bringing to Life a Woman Who Rocks

Get a backstage pass into Joplin’s life and art in One Night with Janis Joplin.

Arena Stage presents a behind-the-scenes look at the new rock-and-roll musical One Night with Janis Joplin (September 28–November 4 at Arena Stage). A truly original singer/songwriter with a voice like whiskey and an electric stage presence, Joplin was dubbed the Queen of Rock and Roll. Featuring Joplin classics, such as “Piece of my Heart” and “Summertime,” the show also shines a spotlight on the women who inspired her, including Bessie Smith, Etta James, and Aretha Franklin.

Join cast members Mary Bridget Davies (Janis Joplin) and Sabrina Elayne Carten (The Blues Singer) for performances and insight into their roles. Meredith Rutledge-Borger, curator from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, will provide historic context and serve as moderator.

Presented in conjunction with Women Who Rock: Vision, Passion, Power. The Women Who Rock galleries will remain open until 7:30 p.m. to allow visitors the opportunity to explore the exhibition prior to the program. Check out artifacts from Janis Joplin, the women who  inspired her, and many more!
