Praised by the San Francisco Chronicle as "an artist who combines probing, restless musical intellect with enormous beauty of tone," violist Kim Kashkashian has established herself as one of the most accomplished and esteemed artists of her generation. In recent years, Kashkashian has appeared as a soloist with major orchestras in New York, Berlin, Vienna, London, Milan, Munich, and Tokyo, including performances with Ricardo Chailly, Christoph Eschenbach, and Riccardo Muti. Her recital appearances have taken her to New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Rome, Paris, and Washington, D.C. Additionally, she has collaborated with multiple quartets and toured with one that included violinists Gidon Kremer and Daniel Phillips and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. In her unending quest for new directions and form, Kashkashian continuously forges partnerships with acclaimed composers. As a result of Kashkashian's relationships with composers such as Eitan Steinberg, Betty Olivero, Ken Ueno, and Thomas Larcher, she has extensively enlarged the repertoire for solo viola. When she is not traveling the globe to perform for eager audiences, Kashkashian extends her reach by recording on the ECM label and training aspiring musicians. She currently teaches at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.
